Angulimala, 2003's Thai take on a Hindu Buddhist tale, is in competition at the 26th Moscow International Film Festival, June 18 to 27. This news comes courtesy of comments by Sebu1.
Directed by Sutape Tunnirut, it is the story of Ahimsaka, a boy who was born under the astrological stars associated with thieves. As a smart and humble student, he was greatly admired by his master, which aroused the jealousy of his classmates, who connived to win the loyalties of the credulous master, convincing him that Ahimsaka was secretly plotting against him. To test his loyalty as well as discredit him, the master orders Ahimsaka to collect 1,000 fingers from different people for him. This leads to him being called Angulimala - “garland of fingers”.)
The film stars Nopachai "Peter" Jayanama, Stella Malucchi (Rumpoey from Tears of the Black Tiger), John Rattanaveroj, Caterina Grosse and Alisa Kachornchaikul, who won the best supporting actress award in 2003 from the Thailand National Film Association.
