The auspicious King's Birthday movie-release slot will be filled this year by Ong-Bak 2, Tony Jaa's long-awaited followup to his Ong-Bak and Tom Yum Goong. It'll be released on December 4, a day before His Majesty the King's 81st birthday anniversary.This means that the third part in M.C. Chatrichalerm Yukol's King Naresuan trilogy, also being distributed by Sahamongkol Film International, will likely not be making its debut at that time, as had been widely speculated. So it's any guess as to when Naresuan 3, which also features Tony in a supporting role, might actually be finished.
Ong-Bak 2 is a sequel in name only to 2003's Ong-Bak. Whereas the first film was set in contemporary Bangkok, the new film takes place in ancient times and features Tony as a young man who is raised by several martial-arts masters in a bid to make him the "one" who will embody a new martial art. The film also marks the directorial debut for Tony.
A look at the jaw-dropping stunts in store in the new film debuted on the Web at Twitch, which brought back a show-reel from the Cannes Film Market that has since been uploaded to YouTube. It's embedded below.
