Wesley Snipes to chase the dragon in Bangkok

Passenger 57 is free to move about, and get back on the Money Train.

Wesley Snipes, the star of such films as Jungle Fever and To Wong Fu Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, will come to Bangkok in September to work on an action film called Chasing the Dragon.

The New Jack City actor was convicted in April for failing to file income-tax returns, from 1999 to 2001, when he was said to have earned around US$13 million. He faces three years in prison, but is free on bail while his attorneys appeal the case.

A Florida judge's decision allows the Art of War star to travel out of the U.S. for four days this month to work in London on Gallowalker, which is in post-production. The September dates in Thailand for Chasing the Dragon are less set in stone, which was cause for concern by the prosecutor on the case, who's quoted by the Orlando Sentinel:

"It would be one thing to allow [Snipes] to travel across the Atlantic for a brief and defined period of time to finish a project that is nearly complete," U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill said in a written opposition filed in federal court. "It would be another to allow [him] to spend two months -- likely more -- beginning a new project halfway around the world with an open-ended return date."

The actor estimates he would be in Thailand for about eight weeks beginning Sept. 8, according to court records.

Snipes, who's also starred in such films as Blade, Murder at 1600 and U.S. Marshals, will portray an FBI agent in Chasing the Dragon, which is set in Bangkok.
