Phuket Film Festival website is live

The Phuket Film Festival is set for June 4 to 11. The fest, which was inaugurated in October of last year but is taking a hiatus this year, expects to screen around 50 to 60 movies.

The program will be similar to last year's, with a mix of award-winning features, documentaries and shorts with an alternative lifestyle section.

From an e-mailed press release, here's a quote from festival director Scott Rosenberg, about the festival's new website:

We're very excited about our new cyber presence. I think it reflects the fun nature of the Festival. We're also very pleased to be one of the first websites in the world to use the new .asia domain address."

Prizes will be be determined in a People's Choice Awards, and industry folks will get to rub shoulders in networking parties, educational seminars and workshops. New plans include a showcase of filming locations around Phuket and southern Thailand - as seen in such movies as The Man with the Golden Gun, The Beach and Cutthroat Island. (Okay, well maybe not Cutthroat Island, because who wants to remember that?)

A workshop on animation for children is also planned, led by Millie Young whose use of environmentally friendly materials has been the focus of her Millimations Workshops.

  1. It's always nice to have another reason to visit Phuket.

But the website seems to be missing a key element from its list of goals and objectives - i.e. to be a colossal vanity project for the pampering of Mr Rosenberg's massive ego ...
