Thai Short Film & Video Festival preview: Electric Eel Showcase

Three shorts from Bangkok-based indie production company Electric Eel Films will be shown on Friday night (September 12) at the 12th Thai Short Film and Video Festival. It will include Like Real Love, a three-segment reflection on the shades of love by Anocha Suwichakornpong.

Here's the rundown, based on information from the festival catalog:

  • One September Story - Teekhadet Vucharadhain directs this story about an awkward meeting of two people in cafe. This is Teekhadet's first directorial effort.
  • Silencio - With headphones clamped over his ears and his recorder in hand, a fuzzy-faced soundman heads to the seaside, looking for something. Silencio was part of the package of short films for His Majesty the King's 80th birthday last year. This is an encore screening, as Silencio was featured on the festival's opening night.
  • Like Real Love (Duj Jit Jai) - a mini-trilogy on romance by Anocha Suwichakornpong, with each word setting a theme: "Like" for love between a man and a woman; "Real" for mother-child love; and "Love" about all encompassing love in humanity. One of the segments, Jai (Love) won a special mention at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen this year. The 38-minute compilation premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The showcase starts at 6.30. Beforehand, there's a package of shorts in S-Express Singapore. That starts at 5pm.

The 12th Thai Short Film and Video Festival wraps up on Sunday. It's being held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, opposite Siam Discovery and MBK Center.
