Coming Soon hits Hong Kong, Singapore

The GTH horror Coming Soon, the directorial debut of Alone and Shutter co-writer Sophon Sakdapisit, opened in Hong Kong cinemas this past weekend and it's coming soon -- as in this week -- to Singapore.

It's the story of a cinema projectionist who is roped into pirating a newly released horror film, and then people connected to the film and to the piracy scheme end up dead.

Ahead of the Singapore release, A Nutshell Review has a review, and it's posted at MovieXclusive. Here's Stefan's take, in a nutshell:

Coming Soon doesn't have enough to be an instant classic, but it bodes well for the GMM Tai Hub stable that they're still a force to be reckoned with when it comes to raking up the scares.

It's among a trio of recent Thai horror flicks that deal with scares in the cinema itself, following Five Star's puzzling The Screen at Kamchanod and the RS Film comedy Ponglang Amazing Theater.

Coming Soon was the best put together of them all and was a trippy meta experience, watching a horror movie set in a multiplex, with posters and lobby standees that were exactly the same in real life as they were in the film. It was actually kind of unsettling.

And oh yeah, the release of Coming Soon in these territories bodes well for horror fans -- you'll probably be able to get an English-subtitled DVD from Hong Kong or Singapore in a couple months.
