Art of the Devil 3 coming to Region 1 DVD in August

Art of the Devil 3 is set for DVD release in North America on August 4. Media Blasters' Tokyo Shock has it, which will complete the label's Art of the Devil box set, which so far comprises Art of the Devil and Art of the Devil 2.

I've heard of problems with the discs in Tokyo Shock's box set not containing the original Thai soundtrack, having only the English dub. Anybody know if that has been fixed?

The first Art of the Devil, or Khon Len Khong (คนเล่นของ) was released in 2004 and was directed by Thanit Jitnukul. "Kratae" Supakson Chaimongkol stars as a pregnant, abandoned girlfriend who turns to witchcraft for revenge.

Art of the Devil 2 (Long Khong, ลองของ) came out in 2005. It's a completely different story, about a vengeful schoolteacher named Panor ("Mamee" Napakpapha Nakprasitte) who uses black magic on her misbehaving students. That was followed last year by Art of the Devil 3 (Long Khong 2, ลองของ 2), which is a prequel to Art of the Devil 2.

The last two films are by seven young directors collectively known as the Ronin Team. They include Kongkiat Khomsiri, writer of The Unseeable for Wisit Sasanatieng, and director of Muay Thai Chaiya and the upcoming Slice.

The series has proven to be popular, and even generated critical acclaim with Mamee picking up a best-actress nomination from the Bangkok Critics Assembly (but not without drama with another awards body).

Five Star Production sold the remake rights to Hollywood last year.

Art of the Devil 3 was featured at the recent Philadelphia Film Festival, where Peter Nellhaus of Coffee Coffee and More Coffee reviewed Art of the Devil 3 and the other Thai feature in Philly's Danger After Dark program, 4bia.

Peter has previously reviewed the first two Art of the Devil films as well.
