Phuket, a movie about Phuket being shot in Phuket

While there are Thais in South Korea making a movie there is also a South Korean actress in Thailand shooting a film.

Lim Su-jeong from I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK portrays a South Korean tourist on the southern Thailand resort island of Phuket. She's being driven around in a hotel's limo, and the driver is portrayed by none other than Thailand National Artist actor Sorapong Chatree.

The short, called Phuket, is being directed by Aditya Assarat. Though the film has been commissioned by Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association of Hotel Operators of Phuket, I expect that Aditya is clever enough to make it into something that rises above the level of being a mere sales pitch. Though it will probably be brighter than his somber Wonderful Town, which was shot in neighboring Phang Nga Province.

And thinking of Korean actresses in Phuket reminds me of Pen-ek Ratanaruang's Invisible Waves, which had Kang Hye-jeong (and Japan's Tadanobu Asano among other pan-Asian talents), but showed the island's not-so-glamorous side.

Aditya's Pop Pictures blog says plans were to show Phuket at the upcoming Asean Plus Six meeting, but now it's uncertain whether the meeting will be held in Phuket, if it is actually ever held at all.

Kong Rithdee has more about Phuket at his Bangkok Post blog.
