For next year's International Film Festival Rotterdam, programmer Gertjan Zuilhof has embarked on a unique project that involves bringing in filmmakers from Southeast Asia and elsewhere and having them make a movie in Africa.
Directors involved include Thailand's Man and Gravity director Jakrawal Nilthamrong, who has recently gone to Zambia. Others taking part include Filipino filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz and Malaysia’s Tan Chui Mui.
Screen Daily has more about the Forget Africa program. It's part of IFFR's overall focus on Africa, which tends to be overlooked on the world cinema scene.
The 39th International Film Festival Rotterdam runs from January 27 to February 7, 2010.
