Time to play catch up with Uruphong Raksasad's Agrarian Utopia, which is still touring the festival circuit. Last I looked, it was winning a special mention in Barcelona, but that was way back in May.
Since then, according to the film's page at production company Extra Virgin, it's played in two recently wrapped-up fests: the fifth Libertas Film Festival in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where it was in the Feature Narrative competition (winner was The Lemon Tree from Israel) and at the 27th Filmfest München, where it played in the Focus on the Far East.
That follows appearances in Jeonju, Hong Kong, Singapore and Rotterdam (where it won a NETPAC special mention).
There's still no word on when Agrarian Utopia will be shown in Bangkok, but a certain tiny village in northern Chiang Rai province will get a private screening of the film this month. That's Uruphong's hometown. There's a van heading to the screening from Bangkok, but it's already jammed full.
"Please wait when we screen in Bangkok in HD format. You guys should watch it in the big screen and in high quality," producer Pimpaka Towira advised the eager fans on her Facebook page.
Feel free to speculate among yourselves on when and where Agrarian Utopia will make its Bangkok premiere.
Until then, how about the trailer? It's actually been on Extra Virgin's YouTube channel since the end of May, but it was only just now that I found it. Now you can find it below.
