AFM 2010: Bangkok Knockout already knocking them out

Though it's not due in Thai cinemas until December, B.K.O.: Bangkok Knockout (โคตรสู้ โคตรโส, Koht Soo Koht Soh), the latest stunt extravaganza from director Panna Rittikrai, is already wowing viewers at the American Film Market.

The action drama "features a group of 'fight club' pals whose styles vary from Muay Thai and Capoeira to kung fu and Tai Chi. When one of their number is kidnapped they find themselves fighting for their lives."

On the strength of an explosive preview – go watch it over at Twitch – the movie has been sold for U.S. distribution to Magnet, reports Film Business Asia.

"BKO is a bigger, badder, crazier Born to Fight," says Tom Quinn, senior vice president of Magnet, which plans release for sometime next year.

It's a natural fit, since Magnet has already picked up several other Sahamongkol action titles, like Ong-Bak 2, Ong-Bak 3 and Dynamite Warrior.

As alluded to by Magnet's Quinn, Bangkok Knockout has the mentor to Tony Jaa back in his Born to Fight mode. Panna has rounded up a bunch of his best stuntmen to take the lead and perform ever-more-dangerous feats of derring-do. It started production around a year ago.

Veteran action star Sorapong Chatree also gets into the mix. Kazu Patrick Tang from Raging Phoenix is in there too. Handle Me With Care and Dangerous Flowers leading lady "Kratae" Supaksorn Chaimongkol and Saranae's comedian Sena Hoi round out the cast.

And, if you're still with me, you can watch the English-subbed trailer here. It's at YouTube.

B.K.O.: Bangkok Knockout is in Thai cinemas on December 9.
