Like Nak Prok earlier this year, the crime drama Mindfulness and Murder (Satit-suek-sop) tells a story about the not-so-holy aspects of monastic life in Thailand's Buddhist temples.They're the kind of stories about wayward monks that crop up in the Thai newspapers from time to time, but haven't often been made into movies because it's such a sensitive subject.
Directed by DeWarrenne Pictures' Tom Waller, Mindfulness and Murder is based on a mystery novel by Nick Wilgus, about a monk who's a former homicide detective. He's tasked with solving a murder that took place in a temple.
Vithaya Pansringarm stars as the sleuth in saffron, with veteran actor Jaran "See Tao" Petcharoen also starring. Way Prinya of the rap group Thaitanium looks badass as a junior monk with a chip on that bared shoulder.

Hopefully we'll be hearing about a Thai release soon. In the meantime, Mindfulness and Murder is making the rounds of film festivals. It recently won awards at the Thrill Spy fest in the U.S., was screened at the Cambodia International Film Festival and is set for the Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival.
