Whenever there's a big football match on television in soccer-crazy Thailand, theater chains and other entertainment providers, such as bowling alleys, karaoke bars, etc have to regroup.
But the Euro 2004 football tournament, starting on June 12 in Portugal, isn't expected to hurt the theaters, execs told The Nation. The reason is because of the time difference between Portugal and Thailand. Most of the matches will be broadcast live by local Thailand TV from around 11pm or later into the night, giving folks plenty of time to check out a movie and then head home or out to a club with big-screen TVs.
Big blockbuster Hollywood movies, like Harry Potter 3 and Spider-Man 2 will ensure audience support, they say.
SF Cinema City, which also has karaoke and bowling venues "will broadcast every match via our TV terminals in the bowling alleys so bowlers can enjoy them" and SF Music City will create a "special menu" for its clients.
