Agrarian Utopia and Grilled Mouse in Asian Hot Shots competition
Two portraits of rural Thailand, Agrarian Utopia and Four Boys, White Whiskey and Grilled Mouse, are competition at the Asian Hot Shots festival in Berlin.
Uruphong Rakasad's highly acclaimed experimental documentary Agrarian Utopia (สวรรค์บ้านนา, Sawan Baan Na) heads to Berlin after wrapping up its four-week run last month in Bangkok as part of the Extra Virgin Director's Screen Project. It's been on a tear through the festival circuit over the past year and it isn't done yet.
Wichanon Somumjarn's Grilled Mouse recently was in competition in Vladivostok and screened at the Reikareuna Film Festival in Finland. Earlier this year this wriggling Electric Eel production won the best fiction prize at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland, which in turn earned Wichanon and other indie filmmakers recognition from Thailand's Ministry of Culture and the film Federation.
