Best of Times for Thailand's Oscar submission
A rumination on memories and romance, featuring a young couple, an older couple and a dog with Groucho Marx eyebrows, is Thailand's submission for the Best Foreign Language category at the 82nd Academy Awards.
According to Variety, Yongyoot Thongkongtoon's mature romantic drama, Best of Times, also called Kwaam Jam San Dtae Rak Chan Yaao (ความจำสั้น แต่รักฉันยาว), was chosen by the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand to be sent to the Oscars. The movie stars "Pe" Arak Amornsupasiri, Yarinda Bunnag, Krissana Setthatumrong and Sunsanee Wattananukul.
As the October 1 cut-off date for the foreign-language Oscar approaches, Best of Times faces a growing number of entries. To make the eventual short list of nominees, Yongyoot's film faces the likes of France's A Prophet by Jacques Audiard, Germany's The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke and Bong Joon-ho’s Mother from South Korea.
More on the foreign Oscar race is at The Wrap.
