Camellia to close 15th Pusan International Film Festival
Camellia, the three-segment omnibus about romance in Busan, will close the 15th Pusan International Film Festival.
Also known as The Busan Project, the film has a short by Wisit Sasanatieng, with the Tears of the Black Tiger and Red Eagle director collaborating with performance artist Michael Shaowansai to bring Michael's Iron Pussy character back to the big screen. The cross-dressing secret agent has been depicted in a number of shorts and 2004's feature, The Adventure of Iron Pussy, which Michael co-directed with Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Wisit's Iron Pussy: A Kimchi Affair has been described as a "karaoke musical" in which Iron Pussy is sent on an assassination job in Busan, where she ends up falling in love. It was shot early this year in Busan.
Other directors offering segments for Camellia are Japan's Isao Yukisada (Go!) and South Korea's Jang Joon-hwan (Save the Green Planet).
The closing film will be among a record-setting 103 world premieres for PIFF, according to news reports. The website for the fest is up, but as Bourne Cinema notes, there's no schedule yet. PIFF runs from October 7 to 15.
