'Surprise' fifth director revealed for 5 Phrang (Phobia 2)

A press conference was held recently to reveal the "surprise" fifth director for the second film in GTH's Phobia horror omnibus franchise, and it is a surprising choice indeed -- it's none other than Visute Poolvoralaks, the head honcho of GTH and the veteran producer behind such GTH hits as Shutter and Alone.

Visute, a member of the influential Poolvoralaks movie-industry family, also produced Nonzee Nimibutr's Nang Nak. That was 10 years ago, when he was running a company called Tai Entertainment, which became the "T" in GTH when GMM Pictures, Tai Entertainment and Jira Malikool's Hub Ho Hin merged to form GMM Tai Hub in 2003. Visute was honored earlier this year with a lifetime achievement award from the Bangkok Critics' Assembly.

Though he's a film-industry veteran, Visute is making his directorial debut. He's alongside a group of young directors -- all old horror hands -- the Shutter/Alone pair of Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom and Body #19's Paween Purikijpanya, all returning from 4Bia, plus franchise newcomer Songyos Sugmakanan, who last dipped into the ghost-thriller pool with Dorm.

A cast of GTH all-stars is lined up for 5 Phrang, including Alone's Marsha Wattanapanich (recently seen being kissed by Sek Loso), Nicole Theriault from One Night Husband, Charlie Trairat from Fan Chan, Dorm and Hormones, and singer "Dan" Worawej Danuwong, formerly the with the boybands D2B and Dan+Beam. He previously acted with his bandmates in the Pang Brothers-produced thriller Omen.

More photos and info from the press conference is at the Popcornmag forum.

Phobia 2 is due in Thai cinemas on September 9 (09/09/09).
