Bitter/Sweet and its Thai cast won't get to bask in the opening-night gala spotlight now that the Phuket Film Festival has been cancelled, but they still have reason to celebrate, with the film recently winning awards at the WorldFest-Houston International Film and Video Festival.
The cast and crew held a party at Bangkok's swanky Bed Supperclub on Wednesday and invited the Thai press to come take their photos.
Lekha J. Shankar was there and she sent this report:
Bangkok-based Swiss Producer Urs Brunner was happy and excited, as he flashed his Oscar-like trophy and spoke animatedly in Thai about the awards.
Present at the event were lead actress Mamee Nakprasit in a bustier top and skin-tight jeans, singer-actress Pakaramai Potranan, in long white jacket and teeny black shorts, actor Akara Amarttayakul in black-rimmed glasses and hat, a left-over of the new theatre-play he’s doing at the Aksara theatre.
Also at the party were Krystal Lee and Paula Taylor, who have recently completed international productions in Thailand.
The wine flowed free, as also gourmet food , and it was refreshing to enjoy the pristine whiteness of the popular night-club, without the loud techno-beats and made energy of its normally noisy crowds. The whole nightclub had been specially reserved for the event, and one was sorry that Bitter /Sweet was deprived of the opportunity of celebrating its Asian premiere at the Phuket festival next month.
