The horror omnibus 4bia has opened at second place at the Hong Kong box office. According to the Golden Rock, it made HK$214,000 from 27 screens on opening day on Thursday, coming in behind the Abba jukebox musical Mamma Mia!
A study on four different fears, 4bia features four clever and loosely interconnected shorts by Yongyooth Thongkongtoon with the Shutter/Alone pair of Banjong Pisanthanakul and Parkpoom Wongpoom along with Paween Puritpanya each contributing segments.
I expect this is just the start for 4bia, which picked up the third-place Public's Prize at the Fantasia Festival earlier this year. It will next be shown at the Bangkok International and at Pusan. The good reception in Montreal shows this film has scares that resonate across cultures. And the box-office numbers in Hong Kong show that 4bia need not be limited to festival screenings.

I love this film and it's great to see how it moves on the international market. 4bia is truly one of the best horror films come out this year. From the four parts, my most favorite is "The Middle Man". The story is clever, the acting is natural and its successfully build the horror atmosphere with some hilarious scenes.
ReplyDeleteThis is one I'm anxiously awaiting.... I just love horror anthologies!! Here's to an english friendly disc soon!
