Thai music roundup: MTV Asia Awards, Academy Fantasia, Modern Dog
YOUNG POP PIANIST: "Tor" Saksit Vejsupaporn won the Favorite Artist award for Thailand at the MTV Asia Music Awards. After a one-year hiatus, the regional awards fete returned with an awards show in Malaysia's Genting Highlands resort. Pussycat Dolls, Panic at the Disco and Leona Lewis were among the international performers. Hosts were Jared Leto and Karen Mok. Malaysia's Star newspaper was there.
ACADEMY FANTASIA: Nat Tewpai-gnam is the winner of True Academy Fantasia’s season five. The popular talent show is a combination of American Idol and Big Brother, in which all the contestants live in the same house, with cable network TrueVision's cameras on them 24 hours a day. They put on televised concerts on Sunday nights. Finalists are determined by the audience, who vote via cellphone messages. Bkkdreamer is an avid viewer.
DIRECT FROM NASHVILLE: Thai rockers Modern Dog are putting the finishing touches on a forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fifth studio album, their first in four years. It was recorded in Nashville. The new single, "Niyai" ("Novel") is available for download to registrants on the band's website, www.ModernDog.biz. I can't figure it out. Help!
