A special SXSW poster for Ong-Bak 2

Ong-Bak 2, Thatchakorn Yeerum's martial-arts spectacular, makes its international festival premiere at South By Southwest tonight as the opening film in the Fantastic Fest at Midnight program.

In celebration, Alamo Drafthouse, the home of the Fantastic Fest, has asked poster artist Brad Klausen to do a rendering, and he's come up with an image of the Great Inventor himself astride a pack of pachyderms.

Ordinarily, the Alamo's special posters are for cinema classics, and it's not often that they order one for a new film.

It's a very distinctive image -- a bit of wood cut or engraving, perhaps even reminiscent of the Cherd Songsri posters. The lettering even has a Thai look to it. Very nice.

The actual poster is 24" x 36" and is $30 signed from Mondotees.

South By Southwest runs from today until March 22.

After SXSW, Ong-Bak 2 heads to Italy, where it'll make its European premiere at the Far East Festival in Udine.

Here's hoping that Ong-Bak 2's U.S. licensee Magnolia Pictures doesn't wait too long to go ahead and release the movie -- it'd make a great summer release.

  1. I can't wait to see this flick. I'm hoping it's still in Thai theatres when I get there later this month...don't want to wait for the U.S. release.

  2. Talen, I hate to break it to you, but Ong-Bak 2 ended its Thai cinema run months ago. You might find it playing in Malaysia.

  3. Damn. Oh well... At the very least I'll be able to get a pirated copy to watch and I'll have to wait to see it in a cinema in America.
