Thai Film Day is Friday

Thailand's film industry will hold a one-day fete on Friday in honor of Thai Film Day. It's an annual event put on by the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand and the Thai Film Directors Association..

Starting at around noon, the event this year comes to CentralWorld. It has been held since 1993, but has mainly been confined to the carpark at Major Cineplex Ratchayothin, according to a story in the Daily Xpress.

The industry will have booths with activities and games, and a chance for fans to meet filmmakers and stars. Statistics and facts relating to the Thai film industry will also be on display. There will also be clips of scenes that the censors cut. Maybe this will spur some public discussion of the film act? Yeah, right.

In the “Directors in Action” zone, Prachya Pinkaew will show how he directs action scenes, Jaturong Mokjok will demonstrate how he directs comedy and Komgrit Treewimol will direct a romance scene.

In conjunction with the event, 10 short films that are finalists in the “Thai People Love the King” film contest will be screened at SF World cinemas. Viewers can vote for their favorite for the People's Choice Award. The competition has a 200,000 grand prize, a 100,000 baht jury prize and 50,000 baht for the people's choice winner. This is the first time members of the public have been allowed to submit entries to the short film contest. Entry has previously been limited to film students.
