Phuket fest plans Spotlight on Taiwanese Film

The second Phuket Film Festival is firming up its program, with a Spotlight on Taiwanese Film planned, and an influx of Taiwanese directors, producers, actors and actresses is expected for the June event.

Here's more from festival director Scott Rosenberg:

An objective of the Phuket Film Festival is to help raise recognition of the island and surrounding region as a prime filming location destination as well as aid in growing tourism to the local area.

In recent years Taiwanese tourism has dipped a bit in numbers but close efforts of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Festival to raise awareness of the diverse culture of Phuket servicing upscale, couples, retiree and MICE travelers hope to win back the Taiwan tourism market.

A gala reception will take place on Friday, June 5 in honor of the Taiwanese Film Spotlight.

Featured films will include Island Etude (Lian xi qu) by Taiwanese director Huai-en Chen. Others will be Neil LaBute's Lakeview Terrace, Loins of Punjab by Manish Acharya, Cadillac Records by Darnell Martin and Chris Taylor's documentary Food Fight.

Finally, a "last call" for entries has been issued.

The Phuket Film Festival will be held from June 4 to 11 at the Coliseum theaters in downtown Phuket city.
