Reports that there are no Thai films at Cannes this year are turning out to have been greatly exaggerated. Not only is the Anglo-Thai production, Soi Cowboy, an official selection in the Un Certain Regard program, the Marché du Film will be having screenings of The Coffin hosted by Arclight Films' Asian division, Easternlight.
The Coffin is the new film by Beautiful Boxer and Pleasure Factory director Ekachai Uekrongtham. Produced by Pantham Thongsang with backing from Thailand and Hong Kong, this co-production stars Ananda Everingham (that makes six films for him this year), Karen Mok (pictured), Andrew Lin, Napakprapha Nakpasit and Aki Shibuya.
The story is about a guy (Ananda) who undergoes the Thai ritual of lying in a coffin to change his bad luck, but things don't work as planned, and he and his lady friend (Mok) are confronted with all kinds of terrifying supernatural incidents.
