Ong-Bak 2 with English subtitles from Hong Kong?

Following up on earlier news, there is much anticipation for the Hong Kong DVD release of Ong-Bak 2.

As with previous releases of Thai action films in Hong Kong, the English subs may end up getting pulled to prevent any gray-market sales to English-speaking territories where the film has already been picked up for distribution. It happened with the original Ong-Bak as well as Tom Yum Goong and Chocolate.

In the U.S., Magnolia/Magnet have the rights to Ong-Bak 2, and they may yet press the case for Hong Kong's Edko to release it without subs.

Update: Logboy comments that both YesAsia and DDD House have changed their listings. The release is set for April 30 and no English subs are listed.

There are English subs, however, on a Malaysian release, available from HK Flix.

(Thanks Logboy!)

  1. ...it's hard to be certain, i suppose, but one thing that had me checking for the sudden appearance of the HK disc was the listings on ebay for the mainland china disc - from Zoke Culture, apparently anamorphic and complete with English Subtitles - as this is usually an indicator a HK disc is shortly around the corner. if anyone ends up plumping for the ZC disc, their reputation seems better these days than it was a few years ago, but i'd like to see if someone can find captures of the quality on some obscure forum...

  2. ...this release now looks to have been pulled. both DDDHouse and Yesasia have stopped taking orders, hidden the listings.

Please, no questions or comments about where to download movies or subtitle files.

Please read the FAQ about Thai films on DVD before asking about where to find a Thai movie on DVD with English subtitles.
