Muay Thai Chaiya hits Dallas

The Asian Film Festival of Dallas started yesterday, and it has an awesome-looking lineup of films from all across Asia. The festival runs until August 21 at the Magnolia Theatre.

Kongkiat Khomsiri's hard-hitting yet sentimental Muay Thai Chaiya plays on Monday.

Other films in Dallas include Charlie and Johnny Nguyen's The Rebel, Lee Kang-sheng's Help Me Eros and Joko Anwar's Kala.

Muay Thai Chaiya appears in Austin next month at Fantastic Fest.

  1. I'm still a bit irked that this year there was no Asian Film Festival in Aurora, Colorado. I did see the only Asian film to play in Denver this summer, the Pang Brothers' Re-Cycle, but it's not quiet the same. I'm hoping more Asian films make it too the Denver International Film Festival, but I'm not getting my hopes up for that one either.

  2. That's disappointing news about Aurora, Peter. After 10 years, and such a good festival last year, what happened?

  3. Here is the Denver Post article on the end of the Aurora Film Festival. The only other Asian film to play in Denver so far this year was Woman on the Beach which I didn't see theatrically as I bought the full version DVD which is about half an hour longer.

  4. I just watched Kala and The Rebel, and was pleasantly surprised by both.
